Some years ago I meet the Billionaire Tim Draper, he is a Silicon Valley venture capitalist known for making huge investments in top technology like Skype and Hotmail. Recently did Tim proposed a plan to split the giant state of California into six bite-sized states.
Last Tuesday on February 18th, California Secretary of the State Debra Bowen gave the okay for Draper to start petitioning to put the proposal on the ballot in California’s November 2016 election. So now has Tim until July 18th 2014 to collect the signatures of 807,615 registered voters.
The current California would become: South California, North California, West California, Central California, Jefferson, and the Silicon Valley according to Tim's proposition.
Each state is supposed to get two senators, this would add 10 more to Congress (five additional states total). So, presumably, federal authorities will have to buy more chairs for the Senate floor, and also completely shift around the tight two-party balance that the Senate has maintained for over 200 years. “They’ll be nervous about change,” says Draper, who thinks government will eventually accept a better governed region.
I think a more local government is better, but most important: what would happen to all the state pride? If there are six "Sunny California"...
