Build a 60.0 sqm house with two containers / by Richard

Shipping container homes seem like a no-brainer. Approximately 30 million steel shipping containers are in existence, filled and floating, or standing empty in a port. 8 feet wide by 8.5 feet high, and either 20 or 40 feet long, the steel shipping container has been the globally standardized transportation module since 1956.

Starting with two 12.5x2.5m containers, space is obviously limited and so it's important to provide well-lit, practical open spaces, thus all the spaces are white and the floor light grey.

The spacial concept is to merge the interior with the exterior and transform the social area in one big space with different ambients and functions. The bedrooms are all distributed on the same facade to assure privacy and less exposure, while the social and exterior area are oriented south west where they find the best view and sun exposure.

There are all the essentials of a well functioning villa.
