A messaging apps that can be used without cell-phone reception / by Richard

A friend of mine Micha started Open Garden Inc some years ago, after we both meet and did spend some time within the VoIP industry.

Last week he released a messaging apps for iPhone, called FireChat. This messaging apps is the only one that can be used without cell-phone reception.

FireChat makes use of a feature Apple introduced in the latest version of its iOS mobile software, iOS7, called multipeer connectivity. This feature allows phones to connect to one another directly using Bluetooth or Wi-Fi as an alternative to the Internet. If you’re using FireChat, its “nearby” chat room lets you exchange messages with other users within 30 meters without sending data via your cellular provider.

Open Garden Inc also makes an app that automatically shares your 3/4G data connection among your devices. And bypass some operators blocking of shares your 3/4G data connection at the same time.

Peer-to-peer mobile communications and mesh networks could prove very important in countries with minimal 3/4G infrastructure. Bravo, Micha and the Open Garden Team.
