Our program focuses on protecting the most vulnerable road users; children walking home in the evening on a dark road!
We will distribute fluorescent beads (wrapped in smart, environmentally neutral packages, as well as an elastic cord) to each child. This simple solution allows the African children between the ages of 6 to 13 to create reflective, fluorescent crafts such as bracelets and adornments with their beads, for themselves and their families.
If you wear a reflective, fluorescent crafts in the evening, you will be seen by drivers at a distance five times longer than you would without one.
The UN has launched a 'decade for action' to tackle road traffic accidents, which kill more people around the world than malaria or Aids, and are the leading cause of death for young people, especially in developing countries. Don't forget that over the next two decades, the number of vehicles in the world's poorest countries will increase at an unprecedented rate.
